Session 8- The Elbow Joint Flashcards
What is the CUBITAL fossa?
The fossa in the elbow
What is the CUBITAL fossa bounded by?
The medial border= the pronator Teres
Superior border= the imaginary line between the epicondyle
The lateral border= the medial border of the brachioradialis
What is the contents of the CUBITAL fossa?
From lateral to medial…
Really Need- Radial nerve
Beer To- Biceps tendon
Be At- Brachial artery
My Nicest- Medial nerve
What are the anterior forearm muscles?
There are 3 layers- superficial, intermediate, deep... Superficial Pronator Teres Flexor Carpi radialis Profondus longus Flexor Carpi ulnaris
Intermediate
Flexor digitorum superficialis
Deep
Flexor digitorum profundus
Flexor polices longus
Pronator Quadratus
Locate the four superficial muscles on your arm…
See complete anatomy
Give the origin, insertion, action and innervation of the PRONATOR TERES
Origin-
2 heads
UlNAR head- the Coronado process of the ulna
HUMERAL HEAD- medial epicondyle of the humerus
Insertion- lateral surface of the radius (the most concave part of radius)
Action- Pronates and flexes the forearm
Innervated by the median nerve
Give the origin, insertion, action and innervation of the Flexor Carpi radialis
Origin- The medial epicondyle of the humerus
Insertion- The base of the second and third metacarpal
Action- flex and abduct the hand at wrist
Innervation- the median nerve
Give the origin, insertion, action and innervation of the Palmaris longus and what is weird about this muscle.
Origin - Medial epicondyle of the humerus
Insertion- The distal half of flexor retinaculum and palmar aponeurosis.
Action- flexes the hand at the wrist
Innervation- the median nerve.
Give the origin, insertion, action and innervation of the flexor Carpi ulnaris.
Origin.
Again has 2 heads…
Humeral head- medial epicondyle of the humerus
Ulnar head- Olecranon and posterior ulna
Insertion- Pisiform, hook of hamate, 5th Metacarpal
Action- Flexus and adducted the hand at the wrist
Innervation- Ulnar nerve
What are the general rules of the superficial muscles?
They all cross the elbow
They all have attachments to the medial epicondyle
They are innervated by the median nerve
What is the flexor digitorum superficialis muscle?
This is the really big intermediate muscle.
What are the origins, insertions, actions and innervation of the flexor digitorum superficialis muscle?
The origin:
Humero-ulnar head: Medial epicondyle of the humerus, ulnar collateral ligament of elbow, coronoid process of ulna
Radial head: superior half of anterior border of the radius
Insertion: middle phalanges of the index, middle, ring and little fingers
Action: flexes the midddle phalanges. At the proximal interphalangeal joints (PIPJs)
Flexes the proximal phalanges at the metacarpophalangeal joints.
Is innervated by the median nerve.
