IUA Flashcards
What is the role of Glut max?
Extensor of the thigh
Lateral rotation
What is Glut max supplied by?
Inferior gluteal nerve (L5, S1, S2)
What is the role of Glut Medius and minimus?
Abducts and medically rotates the lower limb
Prevents pelvic drop on opposite limb during movement
Superior Gluteal nerve
What is the role of tensor fascia Lata?
Abduction and medial rotation of lower limb
What is the origins and attachments for piriformis?
Anterior surface of sacrum to greater trochanter of the femur
What is the action of piriformis?
Lateral rotation and abduction
What are the origins and attachments of the obturator internus?
M at the obturator foramen attaches to the greater trochanter of the femur
What is the role of the obturator internus?
Lateral rotation and abduction
What are the muscles of the anterior thigh innervated by and what’s the action?
Femoral nerve, extend the leg at the knee
What are the role of the posts major and minor?
Flexes lower limb athip joint and assists in lateral rotation
Where does the vastus lateralis originate and attach?
Greater trochanter and lateral lip of linea aspersions, attaches to the patella via the patella tendon.
What is the role of the vastus lateralis?
Extension of the knee and patella stabilisation
What are the origins and attachments for vastus inter Medius muscles?
Anterior and lateral surfaces of femoral shaft and attaches to the patella via. The patella tendon
Origins do attachments of vastus medialis?
Intertrochanteric line and medial lip of linea asparagus and attaches to the patella via patella tendon.
Rectus femoris origins and attachments?
Originates from ilium, superior to acetabulum and attaches to the patella via the patella tendon.
What are the origins and attachments of Sartorius?
Anterior superior iliac spine to the superior medial surface of the tibia
What are the origins and attachments of the pectineus?
Pectineal line on anterior surface of pelvis to the pectineal line on posterior femur
Role of pectineus?
Adduction and flexion of the hip
What are the attachments and origins of the 2 parts of ADductor Magnus?
ADductor Magnus can be split into the adductor part and the hamstring part.
ADductor part- originates from inferior rami of the pubis and the rami of ischium and attached o the linea appear of femur
Hamstring part- originates from the ischial tuberosity and attaches to the Medial supracondylar line of the femur.
What is the role of ADductor longus and brevis?
They both ADductor the thigh and the hamstring portion also extends the thigh.
What does the adductor longus do?
Adducts thigh
What nerve supplies the medial compartment of the thigh?
Obturator Nerve
The muscles in the posterior thigh are known as hamstrings, what do these muscles consist off?
The biceps femoris long and short head
Semitendinosus
Semimembranosus
What is the innervation of the biceps femoris?
The long head is innervated by the tibial part of the sciatic nerve
Short head is innervated by the common fibular part of the sciatic nerve
