What “a common source of infection” mean?
There is a source common to a lot of the cases of infection
Give an example of indirect person to person transmission
Mosquitos - the female mosquito passes on malaria
What is an endemic disease?
A disease occurring at the usual rate we would expect
What in an outbreak?
2 or more cases linked in time and place
What is an epidemic?
The rate of infection is greater than what you would usually expect
What is a pandemic?
A very high rate of infection spreading across many regions, countries and continents
What is the basic reproduction number?
The average number of cases that 1 case generates in a susceptible population
What will happen to rate of disease spread if R0 = more than 1
The rate of infection will increase
What does “infectious dose” mean?
The number of micro-organisms required to cause infection
