Q

Explain the effects of a left to right shunt

A
  • Blood from the left heart is returned to the lungs instead of going to the body, by passing through a hole
  • Increased volume in lungs causes gradual increase in the pulmonary pressure and pulmonary hypertension eventually develops.
  • Mixing of deoxygenated blood with oxygenated blood back into lungs
