Having the confidence to be effective in cross-cultural situations
Definiton of CQ Motivation
capability to direct attention and energy towards
learning about and functioning in situations
characterized by cultural differences
Unfamiliar cues in cross-cultural situations cause
- anxiety, stress
- culutral fatigue
- mistakes, failures
- fear of strangers -> self-protective reaction that is natural and common
- intergroup anxiety -> stress and worry during interactions with people who are diffrent
- anxiety-uncertainity management -> people must manage anxiety and uncertainty about what to expect and how to explain others behaviours during interculutral interactions
Uncertainty vs Anxiety
Uncertainty is cognitive, refers to what one knows about another and one’s level of
predictability about another.
Anxiety is the affective equivalent of uncertainty,
refers to the level of discomfort associated with
interacting with a stranger

But satisfaction brought it back – risk would led to resurrection because of the satisfaction of finding out (I DID IT!)
