Service development Flashcards
What is a stakeholder?
A stakeholder referees to any individual group, or organisation that has a direct or indirect interest in or is affected by the healthcare system and its processes
What is Healthier Together?
NHS funded body aiming to provide tools for children, families, and a ch pools with an aim to manage their weight within a healthy level. Works based on a different tiers, providing different tools to facilitate this.
What are some benefits of Healthier Together?
Team/ Group environment: Encourages team work, likely to increase engagement, creating shared goals helps to maintain motivation.
Reduced stress on NHS: Using funded bodies helps to take stress off NHS services, allowing them to focus on more complex cases. Furthermore, the program aims to teach other stakeholders e.g families to manage their children’s weight themselves. An example of this would be through the BeeZee family academy.
Availability online: Can help increase access to care, and decrease likelihood of healthcare disparities due to inequality of access
Destigmatisation of weight management: By taking the service outside of a hospital setting, children may feel less stigma, and more likely to engage with a plan.
Tiers of treatment: There are different tiers of treatment related to needs of children, meaning the service is inclusive to a larger group of children.
What are some challenges of Healthier Together?
Difficulties of group environments: Weight is a sensitive subject, and some children may shut down in an environment where other families/ children are involved.
Reliance on family support: Some aspects rely on having an engaged and supportive family at home - some children may be limited in their access because of this. A potentially more inclusive method may include some management linked to schooling.
Access disparities: Some aspects e.g BeeZee academy is based online, some families may not have access to the required devices, meaning they wouldn’t be able to access the service. National stats show obesity is more prevalent in deprived areas, so this would directly affect people who need the service the most.
NHS funding: There are likely to be limitations in NHS funding, potentially limiting the outreach/ capabilities of the service.
Data collection: Data is needed to show the service is effective, but this is difficult, especially when the service likely relies on families to self-report results.
