NHS long term plan (2019) mentions the goal to improve digital health to improve access to to care
Organisation: Improved cost-efficiency/ resource efficiency - less people waiting in hospitals, less rooms/ equipment required
Profession: Digital health tools can help physios to manage, assess and improve outcomes for patients. Also encourages collaboration and learning for example with other practitioners to continue education and professional growth.
Individual practitioners: Opportunity for flexible working, i.e from home
Service users: Improved access to care - reduced cost for travel, parking, child care. Improved access to care records to improve motivation, awareness and self-management. Considerations must be made to ensure the service is accessible to all
Impact of movement towards extended physio roles on organisation, profession, individual practitioners and service users
Organisation: More cost/ time efficient if one professional can do multiple tasks/ treatments. Increased staff retention if there is more professional development opportunities.
The profession: Provides opportunity for development, e.g. being a ward manager is now possible for a physio with further experience/ qualification
Individual practitioner: Provides achievable goals to aim for in career, allows for easier changes in career
Service users: Increased rapport with clinician if they can have one professional completing multiple aspects of their treatment
