Series & Parallel, Current & Voltage Flashcards
how do you measure current using a multi-meter?
Set the multimeter dial to the 10A setting (red, right side).
Insert the red plug into the left hole.
Connect the ammeter in series with the source/load to become part of the loop.
how do you measure voltage using a multi-meter?
Front: How do you measure voltage using a multimeter?
Back:
Set the multimeter dial to the 20V setting (orange, left side).
Insert the red plug into the right hole with the source.
Touch the voltmeter wires to each side of the source/load.
what is a series circuit?
a series circuit is the flow of electrons on one path.
what Is a parallel circuit?
a parallel circuit is a circuit that allows more than one path for electrons.
why are homes and building wires in parallel?
to ensure appliances and lights can continue working even if one is turned off.
define current
the rate of electron flow through a circuit, measured in amperes.
what are the different types of current?
(AC) alternating current
(DC) direct current
what is the difference between direction and electron flow?
Current: flows from the positive to negative
Electron Flow: moved from negative to positive
define electrical potential difference
also called voltage
what happens in a series circuit if one light bulb burns out?
all loads in the circuit will stop working
what happens in a parallel circuit if one bulb stops working?
the other reloads will still work because they are on separate pathways.
