Series Circuits Flashcards
What is a series circuit
Where all the components are connected by one loop one after another
Why are very few things connected in series
If there is a break anywhere in the circuit, the charge stops flowing so the circuit won’t work.
What is the potential difference like in a series circuit
Potential difference of the battery is shared across all the components
What is the equation for total voltage of a series circuit
V1 + V2 + V3
What is the current like in a series circuit
It is the same everywhere in the circuit
What is the equation for total resistance in a series circuit
= sum of the individual resistances of each component
Why do components with a greater resistance have a higher share of the voltage
Because it requires a greater voltage to push the current through the resistor
Why is current always the same in a series circuit
There is no choice of route for the charge as it flows around the circuit
