Sequences Yr2 Flashcards
What is a deductive sequence?
Position to term
What is an inductive sequence?
Each term is defined by relating to the previous one (term to term). Recurrence relation. Not arithmetic or geometric so no formulas apply
What is the definition of a sequence?
An ordered set of objects with an underlying rule
What do the following symbols mean?
What is the formula for the nth term of an arithmetic sequence? (Derivation)
What is a geometric sequence?
One where there is a common ratio between terms
What is an alternating sequence?
Oscillates between positive and negative. Usually a geometric sequence where the common ratio is negative
What is the formula for geometric sequences?
What is the formula for the sum of geometric series ? (proof)
What is a divergent series?
The sum of the values tends towards infinity, away from 0
What is a convergent series?
The sum of the values tends towards a set value
What is the sum of infinite terms for a convergent series?
What are strictly increasing/ decreasing sequences?
Strictly increasing: every term is bigger than the last
Decreasing
What is a periodic sequence?
The terms repeat in a cycle. The order is how often it repeats
