  • staph aureus, strep
  • neisseria gonnorhoea
  • H.influenzae (children)

Spread

A
  1. haematogenous spread
  2. disseminated from osteomyelitis
  3. spread from adjacent soft tissue infection
  4. diangostic or therapeutic emeasuers
  5. pentrating damage by puncture or trauma

Investigations

A
  • Blood cultures
  • FBC (leucocytosis)
  • urgent joint aspiration for synovial fluid microscopy and culture

Treatment

A

Consider in any acutely inflammed joint as can destroy joint in <24 hours

Immediate treament with IV ABX after aspiration
