A
Acutely hot inflamed tender red joking which is swollen with loss of function, usually a knee and unilateral

Risk factors
A
Pre existing joint disease, DM, Immunosuppression, renal failure, prosthetic joints

Investigations
A
Joint aspiration for miscroscopy and culture do blood cultures and CRP with routine bloods

Q
Which organisms cause it
A
S. Aureus, streptococcus, gram negative bacilli

Q
Management
A
Flucloxacillin 0.5-1g every 6 hours
Cefuroxime for gram negative
Get a microbiology and orthopaedic opinion
