RBI has issued a directive under S.10(2), read with, S.18 of Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007 introducing the “Positive Pay System” for the Cheque truncation System (CTS) for banks in order to check fraud.
Under the system the issuer of the cheque will be required to submit certain minimum details of the cheque like
- details of the cheque
- name of the beneficiary
- payee and
- amount to the drawee bank electronically
These details will be cross checked before the cheque is presented for payment.
The positive pay system is at the choice of the account holder but banks may make it mandatory in case of cheque for amount of rupees 5 lakh and above

The data released in 2019 says that:-
- around 10,281 farmers committed suicides in 2019. It was 10,357 in 2018
- In 2019, the number of daily wage workers that committed suicide were 32,559.
- Chattisgarh had the highest suicidal rate in the country with 26.4%
- The total number of suicides in the country were 1,39,123 in 2019
This data shows that 42000 480 farmers and daily wage workers committed suicide. This is a 6% increase from previous year.
