It was launched by the Indian Navy on the night of December 4, 1971 during the Indo Pak war following the attack by Pakistan over Indian Air Bases December 3, 1971
Three missile boats - Nirghat, Veer and Nipat of the 25th Missile Vessel Squadron were dispatched to carry out the mission.
The operation was carried out at night as Pakistan did not have an aircraft to attack with bombs at night.
