Seperation And Solubility- Key Words Flashcards
Solute
The substance which dissolves.
Solvent
The liquid in which a solute dissolves in.
Solution
The mixture produced when a solute dissolves in a solvent. (It is transparent).
Dissolve
When the solvent “breaks” apart the solute particles to form a solution.
Soluble
Describes a substance which will dissolve in a solvent.
Insoluble
Describes a substance which will not dissolve in a solvent.
Saturated
A solution containing the maximum amount of solute at a particular temperature.
Suspension
A mixture of an insoluble solid and a liquid where the solid is evenly spread throughout the liquid.
Solubility
The mass of solute which will dissolve in 100g of water at a certain temperature.
Sediment
When solid particles lay at the bottom of the tube.
Bonus question: How can you dissolve more solute in a saturated solution?
- Add more solvent
- Increase the temperature
