Separation Flashcards
What are the 6 types of separation?
Vertical, horizontal, lateral, radar, visual, runway
At what altitude do flight levels begin?
18,000 feet MSL, or FL180
What is minimum vertical separation up to FL290, FL290 to FL410, FL410 to FL600, above FL600?
below FL290 - 1000 feet FL290-FL410 - 1000 feet if RVSM equipped 2000 feet if not FL410-FL600 - 2000 feet above FL600 - 5000 feet
What is RVSM?
Reduced Vertical Separation Minima
allows 1000 foot vice 2000 foot separation between FL280 and FL410
What is minimum vertical separation from air refueling aircraft?
standard separtation above and below the block
What is the minimum vertical separation from fuel dumping aircraft?
standard separation above and 2000 feet below the dumping aircraft
What is the minimum vertical separation from special use airspace?
FL290 and below 500 feet
Above FL290 1000 feet
What is the normal width of an airway?
4NM each side of centerline, total of 8NM
Non radar aircraft can be cleared to depart the same airport nonradar if heading diverge by at least how many degrees?
45 degrees
What is standard longitudinal separation?
10 minutes or 20 miles DME
What is standard radar separation at most terminal facilities up to, and beyond 40 miles from the radar?
less than 40 NM - 3NM
40 or beyond - 5NM
What is standard en route radar separation above and below FL600?
below FL600 - 5NM
FL600 or above - 10 NM
What is required to use visual separation?
1) call traffic
2) pilot report traffic in sight
3) instruct pilot to maintain visual separation from that aircraft
4) advise pilot if radar targets likely to merge
5) if like to merge, advise other pilot of visual separation being used
What is standard runway separtation?
Takeoff does not begin roll, or arrival does not cross threshold until preceding aircraft is clear of end of runway or has turned off runway.
What is standard runway separation for intersecting runways?
Takeoff does not begin roll, or arrival does not cross threshold until preceding aircraft is clear of intersection.
