Distillation
What is the name of CH4
Methane
What is the process of evaporation
Is used to separate small amounts of two or more solids which are soluble in the same solvent. (Water changing from a liquid to a gas or vapour)
What is the process of chromatography
Is used to separate a soluble solid and a liquid to obtain the solvent
What is the process of filtration
Is used to separate an insoluble solid from a liquid. (Solid particles in a liquid removed by the use of a filter permitting the fluid to pass through but retaining the solid particles)
What is the process of distillation?
Distillation, or classical distillation, is the process of separating the components or substances from a liquid mixture by using selective boiling and condensation
What is a solution
A solute dissolved in a solvent
What is a solute
A substance that is dissolved in a solvent
What is a solvent
A liquid in which chemicals dissolve to make a solution (e.g water and ethanol)
What’s an aqueous solution
Solution where a solute is dissolved in water
Non aqueous solution
Solution where the solute is dissolved in a solvent that isn’t water (e.g ethanol)
What three stages does involve distillation
Boiling - always describing particle movement + energies
Condensing - always describing particle movement + energies
Collecting
Name all of the chemical changes
Colour change New products formed Effervescence Exothermic - heat given out Endothermic - heat take in
Name the two physical changes
Only the state changes
No new substances found
What happens during chromatography
The molecules separate into layers as the molecules pass through the filter. The mechanism of separation depends on the filtering method, which is determined by the kinds of molecules to be separated
