What is a sentence??
A sentence ma be defined as a string of words which begin with a capital letter and ends with a punctuation mark; an exclamation mark or full stop
Sentences are me up of
Subject, verb and object ( predicate)
Name sentence types
Simple sentence
Compound sentence
Complex sentence
Compound complex sentence
What’re simple sentence
A simple sentence consisting of only one clause, with a single subject and predicate
What’re compound sentence
Usually contains two independent clauses that are joined by coordinating conjunction.
What’re complex sentence
They are sentences that contain an independent clause plus one more dependent clause.
What’re Compound complex
These are sentences that contain 3 or more clauses of which at least 2 are independent and 1 is dependent.
Sentence paterns
- Subject + verb (VS)
- Subject+ verb + object (SVO)
- Subject+ verb + compliment (SVC): The compliment gives more information about either the subject or object
- Subject + verb + object + compliment ( SVOC)
- Subject + verb + indirect object + direct object.
