The cat sitting by the stairs
Wrong: siting is not a working verb (a verb that can function by itself)
Right: That cat is sitting by the stairs.
GMAT often puts a lot of words in front of subject

Dependent clauses
begin with connecting words such as who or because

Wrong: the teacher is confident her students mastered the lesson.
Wrong: I know Mery streep is an actor
Two complete sentences can be connected using a comma plus a conjuction
Remeber FANBOYS
Cannont connect two sentences only using a comma
Semi Colon
You can also connect two indpendent clauses using a semi colon. Each statment must be able to stand alone as independent clauses
Semi Colon often followed by
however, therefore, or in addition
Modifers
adjective modifies only a noun or pronoun
whereas an adverb modifies almost anything but a noun
Ending a sentence with a preposition
some times list only contains one item
the colon : comes before a list or explanation
the part before the colon must be able to stand alone
Opening modifiers
when sentence begins with a warmup followed by a comma the thing being described should come directly after the coma
Incorrect: Filled with one million tons of trash, the mayor suggested that a new landfill be built
Correct:Full of one million tons of trash, the landfill was cited by the mayor as sorely in need of expansion
Incorrect: Hiking through the woods, my backpack was stolen by bears
Correct: Hiking through the woods, I had my backpack stolen by bears.

When when you list or compare two or more thing make sure you list and comparison are both logically and granatically parallel

supersceded THOSE OF ….
Dont use that or which for people instead who

-When ever you use which you must be refering to a noun
Two long nonessential modifiers in a row can lead to an akward or incorrect pharasing
better to put 1 non essential placed before the noun and the other is placed after the noun.

Which vs the present participle ing
Wrong: Crime has recently decreased in our neighborhood, which has led to a rise in property values.
-When ever you use which you must be refering to a noun
Wrong: There were less Numidian Kings than Roman Empierors
There were fewer numidian Kings that roman emperors
