What are compound-complex sentences?
consists of two independant clauses joined with a co-ordinating conjunction and at least one subordinate clause
What is a minor sentence
also known as a fragment
does not have the grammer in complex or compound sentances
- Why would a writer use a long sentance?
- overwhelming or depressing atmosphere
- give the impression of time dragging
Why would a writer use short sentances?
- create a sense of energy, pace and panic
- build tension
- create a worried or confused tone
Why does this contrast in long and short sentances occur?
- long sentances are hard to read
- short sentances create pace as you are forced to take so many short breath in tim ewith the full stops
- a change in sentance structures can emphasise a change in mood
