Sensory Pathways Flashcards
Spino thalamic pathways conveys which information
Pain
Temperature
Crude touch
Dorsal columns conveys
Proprioception
Vibration
Fine touch - 2 point discrimination
Dorsal columns pathway
Sensory neurone cell body in the dorsal horn
From the lower limb travels in the fasiculus gracilis
From the upper limb travels in the fasiculus cuneatus
It then ascend the spinal cord travelling ipsilaterally to its respective nuclei - nuclei gracilis and cuneatus in the medulla
Decussates
Travels in the medial lemniscus to the VPL thalamus
Then synapses in the thalamus goes to the respective somatosensory areas
Spinocerebellar tract carries which information
Unconscious proprioception
Input for the spinocerebellar tract
Golgi tends organ and muscle spindles and tactile receptors
How many tracts are within the spino cerebellar tract and what are they called
2
Ventral
Dorsal
Dorsal pathway
2 neurone pathway
One synapses in Clarks Column and ascend ipsilaterally to the cerebellum where it enters at he inferior peduncle
Ventral pathway
Enters at the spinal cord synapses in the posterior the decussates
Ascends
Decussates again the enter the superior spino cerebellar peduncle
Double decussates
So supplies the ipsilateral side whilst travelling contra laterally
Spino thalamic pathway
Primary neurone enters with cell body in the dorsal root ganglia
It then ascends or descends 1 or 2 levels in lissauers tract
It synapses at the posterior horn
Secondary neurone cell body is in the substantial gelatinosa
Decussates at the anterior white commissure
Ascends in the spinalthalamic tract
Through the spinal lemniscus in the pons
Synapses in the VPL thalamus
Travels via the internal capsule to the somatosensory area
