sensorimotor stages Flashcards

1
Q

1-2: time range, feature, permanence, interpretation of objects

A

0-4 months

chaotic flow of info
configuration-they look at a face and see eyes and mouth
affective permanence

Q

3:time range, feature, permanence, interpretation of objects

A

4-8 months

secondary circular reaction
Elemental permanence-reproduction of an interesting result
Practical permanence-dont have permanence of the object, just actions
No search for disappearing objects-out of sight, out of mind
Rapid accommodation to rapid movements-

Grasping-reacquiring an object that’s in reach and out of sight

Deferred circular reaction-behavior in response to stimuli they find interesting-oh look at this toy- then they grab it

Reconstruction of an invisible due to partial vision/clues- peekaboo doesn’t work

Removal of obstacles-moves transparent box to get to object
Hand eye coordination

Q

5:time range, feature, permanence, interpretation of objects

A

12-18 months-

active search for object in last visible position-takes into account visible changes in position
residual reaction
dual nature of object-permanent when perceptible, non permanent when not
trial n error

tertiary circ reaction-experiment with new behaviors and variations of their actions to explore the effects on their environment. -For instance, a toddler might drop a toy from different heights to see how it falls or experiment with different ways of stacking blocks.

Q

6:time range, feature, permanence, interpretation of objects

A

18-24 months

mental representation-conceive non-visible changes->deductive reasoning
real permanence-this is how the object works outside of theirfeelings
\
Because they can symbolically imagine things that cannot be seen, they are now able to understand object permanence.
