Sensation and perception (2) Flashcards
Theories of Color vision
Trichromatic theory
Opponent-process theory
What is the trichromatic theory?
explains how our eyes perceive and process colors.
what is color mixing?
The brain interprets the combination of signals from these cones to create a wide spectrum of colors.
What is additive color mixing?
combining different wavelengths of light can produce a variety of colors.
What is the opponent-process theory?
the human visual system interprets color through the comparison and interaction of three color channels.
What are the opponent process channels?
Red green channel - process red and green colors in opposition to each other
blue yellow channel - processes blue and yellow colors in opposition
Black white channel - process the overall intensity of light
Sound
the physical stimuli for the sense of hearing are sound waves
What are the properties of sound and explain them
Frequency - number of cycles per second in a sound wave
Amplitude - Magnitude of a sound wave
