Q
Vmc Demo
A
- Clearing turns.
- Flaps-up, gear-up.
- Mixtures–Enrichen, Props–Fwd, Fuel Pumps–On.
- Slowly close left throttle while maintaining heading and altitude.
- Slow to 100 KIAS (approx. 10 KIAS above VYSE).
- Slowly increase right throttle (operating engine) to full power. Use
rudder to maintain directional control and bank up to 5 ̊ towards the
operating engine. - Increase pitch attitude slowly, decrease airspeed at approximately 1
knot per second until full rudder is applied to maintain directional
control. - Recover at first sign of:
A. Loss of directional control.
B. First indication of stall (stall horn or buffet). - Recover promptly by simultaneously reducing power sufficiently on the
operating engine while decreasing the angle of attack as necessary to
regain directional control within 20 ̊ of entry heading. - Continue recovery by increasing power slowly on operating engine
while maintaining an AOA that allows for airspeed to increase to a point where directional control can be maintained with a minimum loss of altitude. - Accelerate to 82-88 KIAS.
- Bring throttles slowly together to 20” MP.
- “Cruise Checklist.”
21
Q
Emergency Descent
A
- Throttles–Slowly reduce to idle.
- Props–Full Forward.
- Mixtures–Adjust.
- Gear-Down, accelerate up to a max speed of 140 KIAS (ATP use 120 KIAS)
- Cowl Flaps–As Required.
- Maintain 140 KIAS (ATP 120 KIAS) during descent.
- Notify ATC as appropriate.
22
Q
Steep Turns
A
- Clearing turns as specified by the Examiner.
- Set power to maintain 120 KIAS throughout maneuver.
- Set bug to entry heading.
- Maintain selected altitude ±100’.
- Maintain 120 KIAS or a safe airspeed not to exceed VA.
- Adjust power as necessary during maneuver.
- Perform 360 ̊ turn to the left maintaining at least 50 ̊ bank ±5 ̊.
- Roll out on entry heading ±10 ̊.
- Perform 360 ̊ turn to the right maintaining at least 50 ̊ bank ±5 ̊.
- Roll out on entry heading ±10 ̊.
23
Q
Slow Flight
A
- Clearing turns.
- “Gear Down Before Landing Checklist.”
- Extend full flaps 40 ̊.
- Slow to just above stall warning (approximately 60-65 KIAS).
- Adjust power as necessary to maintain airspeed while maneuvering.
- Accomplish straight-and-level flight, climbs, turns, and descents as
required, without activating a stall warning. - Recover with max power.
- Retract flaps slowly to 0 ̊.
- Accelerate to 82 KIAS (VX), maintain altitude or climb as specified by
Examiner. - Retract gear, accelerate to 88 KIAS (VY).
- “Cruise Checklist.”
24
Q
Power Off Stall
A
- Clearing turns.
- “Gear Down Before Landing Checklist.”
- Extend full flaps 40 ̊.
- Establish a stabilized 400 FPM descent at 75 KIAS.
- Maintain selected heading, or establish 15 ̊-bank turn as specified by
Examiner. - Slowly reduce power to idle while increasing pitch attitude to induce
stall (approx. 12 ̊). - Acknowledge stall cues and recover promptly at the first indication of
an impending stall. - Simultaneously reduce angle-of-attack, set max power, and level wings.
- Retract flaps slowly to 10 ̊.
- Accelerate to 82 KIAS (VX), establish a positive rate of climb.
- Retract flaps to 0 ̊.
- Retract gear, accelerate to 88 KIAS (VY).
- “Cruise Checklist.”
25
Q
Power On Stall
A
- Clearing turns.
- Set takeoff or departure configuration as specified by the Examiner:
A. Takeoff configuration (Gear Down, Flaps 0 ̊).
B. Departure configuration (Gear Up, Flaps 0 ̊). - Mixtures–Enrichen, Props–Fwd, Fuel Pumps–On.
- Slow to 80 KIAS, liftoff speed.
- Maintain selected heading or establish a 15 ̊-bank turn, as specified by
the Examiner. - Transition smoothly to approx. 15 ̊ pitch-up while increasing power to 18” MP.
- Acknowledge stall cues and recover promptly at the first indication of
an impending stall. - Simultaneously reduce angle-of-attack, set max power, and level wings.
- Accelerate to 82 KIAS (VX), establish a positive rate of climb.
- Retract gear (if extended), accelerate to 88 KIAS (VY).
- “Cruise Checklist.”
26
Q
Accelerated Stall
A
- Clearing turns.
- Flaps-up, gear-up.
- Mixtures–Enrichen, Props–Fwd, Fuel Pumps–On.
- Slow to 100 KIAS.
- Slowly reduce power to idle.
- Establish a coordinated 45 ̊ bank turn.
- Maintain altitude to induce stall.
- Recover at the first indication of an impending stall.
- Reduce angle-of-attack, level wings, and set max power.
- “Cruise Checklist.”
