Homophones
They sound the same but not spelt the same. For example, ‘hare’ and ‘hair’
Homograph
written the same but pronounced differently. For example, ‘present’ and ‘present’
Homonyms
Two words that are written and pronounced the same but are two different lexemes. For example, ‘river BANK’ and ‘bank;’
Polysemy
Words that are the same that can have several meanings. For example, ‘table’, ‘table’, ‘keyboard’ and ‘keyboard’
Antonymy
opposites
Complimentary antonymy
if its not one, it has to be the other. For example, ‘alive’ and ‘dead’
Gradable antonymy
Extremes on a spectrum but you can grade them. For example, ‘big’, ‘small’, ‘full’ and ‘empty’
Incompatible antonymy
Things within categories. For example, ‘yellow’ and ‘green’ and ‘monday’ and ‘wednesday’
Meronymy
a word within something that is a part of it. For example, ‘bonnet’ is part of ‘car’. This is meronymy.

Animals. For example, ‘cat’, ‘dog’, ‘cow’ and ‘pig’
