Homophony
Words with same pronunciation but completely unrelated meanings
Polysemy
Word has two or more related meanings
Denotation
Category or set of all it’s potential referents
Connotation
The set of associations that a word can evoke
Extension
Set of entities that a word picks out in the world
intention
Inherent meaning
Fuzzy concepts
Concepts that don’t have clear cup boundaries from other concepts
Graded concept
Concept whose members display varying degrees of the characteristics, some more typical than others
Contingent
Sentence that is neither necessarily true nor necessarily false
Principle of polarity
In given context, a declarative sentence is either true or false
Directional opposites
Opposite directions on an axis
E.g. Before, after
Complementaries
Either or alternatives, not scalar
E.g. Boy, girl
Heteronym
More than two alternatives within a given domain (contraries)
E.g. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc
Non-tautologies
Different intention but same extension
E.g. Rose is violet’s mother.
Tautology
Repeating the same thing
E.g. Rose is rose.
