Synonym
a single lexeme typically has different sets of similar meanings that can cover different aspects ot the lexeme.
e.g. Coat has different synonyms for its senses ‘outer garment,’ jacket.
Antonymy
refers to lexemes with opposite or contrasting meanings.
E.g. Good and Evil.
Hypernymy
a word that names a broad category that includes other words.
E.g. primate is a hypernymy for chimpanzee and human.
Hyponym
a term that denotes a subcategory of a more general class. A hyponym can be a group of words on a similar level that can be all replaced by the same hypernym.
E.g. pigeon, crow, eagle and seagull are all hyponyms (co-hyponyms) of bird (their hypernym). In turn, bird is a hyponym of animal.
Idiom
a group of words established by usage as having a meaning not deducible from those individual words.
E.g. ‘over the moon.’ = happy.
Denotation
the literal or primary meaning of a word, in contrast to the feelings or ideas that the word suggests.
Connotation
an idea or feeling which a word invokes for a person in addition to its literal or primary meaning.

Euphemism
a mild or indirect lexeme or expression substituted for one considered to be too harsh or blunt when referring or embarrassing. Usually this will relate to taboo topics such as death, sex or menstruation.
E.g. ‘In a better place’ for died.
Dysphemism
a derogatory or unpleasant term instead of pleasant or neutral one.
E.g. ‘Croaked it’ for died.
