Q

What is reliability in self reports?

A

Reliability is how easily each study can be repeated, normally through the use of IVs and getting rid of extraneous variables

Q

What are the strength and weaknesses of self report measures?

A

✅The techniques, interviews and questionares, have strengths as to that they generate very rich quantative and qualatative data, which can be easy to analyse and is reliable
✅The structured interviews and questionares are also very easy to repeat, making them much more reliable as well
⛔️participants can be affected by things such as social desirability , and they might be influenced by leading questions
⛔️only some people will be willing to fill out questionares, so it might not be representative of the majority of the population k

Q

What are the strengths and weaknesses of likert scales?

A

✅They are easy for participants to respond to, so large amounts of data can be collected easily and quickly
✅they produce quantative data, which is very easy to analyse
⛔️they produce only quantative data, which lacks detail so it lowers the validity of the data
⛔️there is a risk of response bias, such as consistently giving answers in the middle of the scale

Q

What are the strengths and weaknesses of open questions?

A

✅Open questions produce qualitative data, so participants can express their full opinions, making them more valid
✅because of the qualitative data, analysis can retain the participants’ details in their answers
⛔️producing qualitative data means that it’s a lot more difficult to analyse and is also a lot less valid
⛔️findings also may be a lot less generalisable

Q

What are the strengths and weaknesses of closed questions?

A

✅Closed questions are easy for participants to respond to, so data can be collected quickly
✅ they produce Quantative data which is easy to analyse
⛔️quantative data lacks depth and meaning to be fully valid
⛔️there is a risk of answer bias, such as participants always answering yes

Q

What are the strengths and weaknesses of qualitative data?

A

✅It tends to be collected using objective measures, which may be highly valid as it’s likely they’ll express their full opinions
⛔️tends to be invalid through recording or interpretation due to experimenter bias
