- Questionnaire
- Interview

What are 3 types of closed questions?

- Rating scale- participants give a value to represent their strength of feeling on a topic
- Fixed choice option- a list of possible options are given for participants to choose from
How do researchers ensure clarity? (3)
Jargon- respondence won’t understand the question
Double-barrelled questions- Respondents may agree with one part but not the other
Double negatives- May confuse respondents
How do researchers remove bias? (2)
Emotive language- make sure your attitudes are not coming across in the way questions are phrased
Leading questions- make sure the questions don’t guid the respondent to a particular answer through the wording
What are the two advantages of questionnaires?
- cost effective: can gather large amounts of data quickly because they can be distributed to large numbers of people
- Respondents are more willing to give personal information because they feel less self conscious
What are the two disadvantages of questionnaires?
- social desirability bias: respondents may not give truthful answers in order to present themselves in. amore positive light
- acquiescence bias: respondents tend to reply in a similar way E.G always ticking ‘yes’ or ‘strongly agree’
