Define a Questionnaire
A set of written questions used to assess a ppts thoughts/experiences

Used to assess the DV
What are the 2 styles of questions that can be used in a Questionnaire?
Open Questions
Closed Questions
What kind of data do open questions usually produce?
Qualitative Data
What type of data do close questions produce?
Qualitative and Quantitative - it depends on what short of questions are asked e.g. a rating or a yes/no answer
What are open questions?
Where there is no fixed range for an answer
What are closed questions?
Where there can only be a fixed number of responses
What are the strengths of questionnaires? (5)
- Cost-Effective
- Large amounts of data are gathered quickly
- Can be completed w/o researcher being present
- Easy to analyse
- Can be used in statistical analysis
What are the weaknesses of questionnaires?
- Social Desirability Bias
- Response bias (not reading q properly, replying in a similar way)
Define Structured Interviews
Where pre-determined questions are asked in a fixed order
Define an Unstructured Interview
Where there are no set questions and the general aim of a topic will be discussed
What are ppts encouraged to do in unstructured interviews?
To expand and elaborate their answers
Define Semi-Structured Interviews
Where there is a list of questions but interviewers are free to ask follow up questions

Face-to-Face

What is a strength of Structured Interviews?
