Two types of self presentation
Strategic self-presentation
Self-verification
our efforts to shape other’s impressions in specific ways in order to gain influence, power,sympathy,or approval.
Strategic self-presentation
specific goals desire to be seen as, likeable, competent, moral, dangerous, helpless
Strategic self-presentation
acts that are motivated by the desire to “get along” with others and be liked
Igratiation
acts that are motivated by a desire to “get ahead” and gain respect for one’s competence
Self-promotion
the desire to have others perceive us as we truly perceive ourselves.
Self-verification
selectively elicit, recall, and accept personality feedback that confirms their self conceptions
Self-verification
a personality trait or individual difference that reflects the fact that people meaningfully differ in whether or how they regulate their behavior in different social situations.
self-monitoring
someone who is concerned about how they are perceived by other and will actually change their behavior in order to fit different situations
high-self monitor
someone who is less concerned with how other people perceive them and will be more likely to act consistently
low-self monitor
a process by which people come to understand one another

William Sheldon classified body types in 3 categories:
Ectomorph
Endomorphs
Mesomorphic
characterized by long, thin muscles and limbs, low fat storage
ectomorph
increased fat storage, wide waist, large bone structure
Endomorphs
predisposed to build muscle , but not store fat
tend to be strong and solid, neither overweight nor underweight
Mesomorphic
process by which people attribute humanlike mental states to various animate and inanimate objects, including other poeple
Mind perception
an important aspect in how we perceive, connect with, and behave toward one another.
mind perception
enables us to make quick and sometimes accurate judgements of others based on thin slices of expressive behavior.
