Intervention in younger children

A

Educate the parents
Make the child safe
Give praise when deserved
Parents need to be consistent (consistent punitive punishment is better than inconsistent lighter punishment)
Make special time for the child (1 hour per week)
Get them involved in activities they like and do well at
Stop activities they do not like or fail at
Keep expectations realistic
Accept that childern make mistakes
Allow the child to make decisions
Change the childs school if there’s a problem
