Trust vs. mistrust: birth-18 months
Learns to trust others through the quality of the caregiving - distinguishes self from the environment
Autonomy vs. shame: 18 months-3 years
Begin to communicate likes and dislikes - self control and independence, appreciates body appearance
Initiative vs. guilt: 3-5 years
Imaginative, identifies with gender, enhancement of self awareness, increases language skills
Industry vs. inferiority: 6-12 years
Starts to engage in tasks and activities, needs input from peers, increases self esteem with new skill mastery
Identity vs. role confusion: 12-19 years
Accepts body changes, sexual maturity - starts to examine attitudes, beliefs, values and makes goals for the future
Intimacy vs. isolation: young adult-mid 40s
Positive self image, looks for intimate partnership, experiences successful role transitions and increased responsibility
Generativity vs. self absorption: mid 40s-60s
Able to accept aging, reassess life goals
Integrity vs. despair: mid 60s-death
Feels positive about life and it’s meaning, looks to providing a legacy
