selective B2 adrenoceptor agonists Flashcards
cautions
- arrhythmias
- CVD
- diabetes
- hypertension
- hyperthyroidism
- hypokalaemia
- Qt interval
why are they cautioned in diabetes
risk of hyperglycaemia and ketoacidosis esp with IV use
caution - hypokalaemia
potentially serious hypokalaemia can occur from b2 agonist therapy
esp in severe asthma or COPD bc effect may be potentiated by concomitant treatment with theophylline and its derivatives, CCs, diuretics, and by hypoxia
4 common side effects
arrthyhmias
headache
palpitations
tremor
monitoring in pt with severe asthma
plasma potassium conc due to risk of hypokalaemia
monitoring in pt with diabetes
BG due to risk of hyperglycaemia and ketoacidsosis esp when given IV
