Because it must meet or exceed the requirements of a program in order to perform effectively.

RAM, a good CPU or both.

The CPU. This is common in laptops and lower end PCs.
What does the sound card do?
It determines the sound quality of the computer.
What must a sound card be supported by to reach its full potential?
Quality speakers and a subwoofer.
How should a sound card be chosen?
It should be chosen based on it’s users needs.
What do storage controllers do?
They allow for the epansion of internal and external drives for a computer system.
What unfluences the choice of data controller?
The amount of data and the level of data protection required, influences the required type of controller.
What does an I/O card do?
It is a quick and easy way to add I/O ports.
What does a NIC do?
A network interface card allows for a computer to interface wirelessly. Customers typically get it for this purpose or to increase bandwidth.
What device typically has an integrated NIC?
A laptop. Desktops usually have to get their own.
What does a capture card do?
It imports video into a computer and records it on a hard drive. Usually used for capturing video live.
What combined with what piece of hardware can a capture card record television programming?
A television tuner.
What must a compute system have to support capture, recording and editing?
Enough CPU power, adequate RAM and a high speed storage system.

Current and future needs.
