Q

There are two known of methods brainstorming, identify and compare the two.

A

The two methods of brainstorming are idea listing and idea mapping.

Idea list simply involves listing ideas about a particular topic. It helps you find the main idea and supporting details from the numerous ideas listed. Also, idea listing is especially appropriate to those people who are more comfortable in processing words than visuals.

While idea listing focuses on texts, idea mapping focuses more on visuals. Idea map is a visual representation of ideas and their connections with one another. It is more structured, thus it is able to show how one idea subordinates another idea.

What is outlining?

A

Outlining is a tool for organizing ideas. It is used not only as a pre-writing strategy but also as a post-ready activity.

18
Q

Identify the two types of outlining and differentiate the two from each other.

A

The first type of outlining is called decimal outline, this type of outlining only uses numbers as labels. The second type of outlining is called alphanumeric or alphanumerical outline, where it uses both letters and numbers as labels.

19
Q

What are the four principles of outlining? Define each.

A
  1. Coordination - Outlining requires ideas of the same relevance to be labeled in the same way (All the information contained in Heading 1 should have the same significance as the information contained in Heading 2. The same goes for the subheadings)
  2. Subordination - It shows that minor details have to be placed under their respective major details
  3. Division - It requires that no cluster should contain only one item. In short, of you have subheading 1, there should always be subheading 2)
  4. Parallel Construction - It requires all entries in each cluster to use the same structure and format (If the first heading is a noun, the second heading should be a noun)
20
Q

What are the two kinds of outline according to structure? Differentiate each.

A

Topic outline uses words and phrases as its entries. Generally, a topic outline is used if the ideas being discussed can be arranged in a number of ways.

Sentence outline, on the other hand, uses complete sentences as its entries. A sentence outline is used when the topic being discussed is complicated and requires details.
