What is Status Epilepticus?
either > 5 mins of continuous seizure activity OR multiple seizures without full recovery of consciousness (i.e. back to baseline) between seizures
What is Generalised Tonic Clonic Seizure (GTCS)?
Generalised tonic clonic movements of the extremities with altered conscious state
What treatment can be given for seizures other than GCSE?
Midazolam may only be given following consultation via the clinician
What other routes of administration may parents be able to self administer midazolam or diazepam?
- Buccal (midaz)
- Intranasal (midaz)
- Rectal (diaz)
What do you do if a single seizure has spontaneously terminated?
Continue with initial management and transport to hospital
What do you do if the patient refuses transport to hospital with history of seizures?
- they may be left in the care of a responsible third party.
- Advise the person of the actions to take for immediate continuing care if symptoms recur, and the importance of early contact with their primary care physician for follow up

How can seizure activity appear differently in children?
- Vacant stare
- Lack of gross muscle tonicity
- nystagmus, lateral fixed gaze and/or facial muscle twitching
