occurs with fever >38 C Child <6yo No previous h/o afebrile seizures No systemic metabolic conditions that could be cause of seizures No CNS infection

1) younger <1hr) before seizure onset
4) FHx of FS 9 1st degree relatives of children w FS - 10-20% parents and siblings will have FS)
- all factors present - risk increased to 76%
- no factors - 4%
- NB Complex FS not factor for risk recurrence
