Seismic (?) Flashcards
an elastic wave genereated by an impulse such as an earthquake or an explosion.
Seismic waves
Earth’s Scientist, specialized in geophysics, who study the genesis and the propagation of seismic waves in geological materials.
Seismologist
Instruments used to record the motion of the ground during an earthquake
Seismograph
Wave that shakes the ground back and forth in the same direction and the opposite direction as the wave moves.
P-waves
Wave that shakes the ground back and forth perpendicular to the direction the wave is moving
S-waves
Surface wave having a horizontal motion that is transverse (or perpendiculas) to the direction the wave is travelling.
Love waves
Seismic surface wave causing the ground to shake in an elliptical motion, with no transverese, or perpendicular motion.
Rayleigh waves
A method of ore reserve estimation
Triangular method
is the location on the surface of the earth directly above where the earthquake starts.
