Geology Flashcards
the outermost shell of a terrestrial planet.
Crust
Mantle
The mostly-solid bulk of Earth’s interior. It lies between Earth’s dense, super-heated core and its thin outer layer, the crust.
Core
It is the very hot, very dense center of our planet.
The solid, outer part of Earth.
Lithosphere
Asthenosphere
Weaker layer beneath the lithospheric mantle.
Uppermost layer of the oceanic portion of the tectonic plates.
Oceanic crust
Is a geologican process in which the oceanic lithosphere is recycled into the earth’s mantle at convergent boundaries.
Subduction zone
is a seafloor mountain system formed by plate tectonics.
Mid-ocean ridge
Earth’s outer shell is divided into large slabs of solid rocks, called “plates” that glide over Earth’s mantle.
