Sedimentary logs & Walther's Law Flashcards

1
Q

Hvad er en weathering profile?

A

Q

What is transgression and regression?

A

Transgression = water rises and moves into the land = retrogradation

Regression = water recedes and moves away from land = progradation

Q

What is Walther’s law?

A

A drawing of where the lands meets the sea.
The soft, curved depositional lines showing lateral movement

Constant sediment supply to shelf = continued deposition (adding sediment) building up the layers on the sea bed –> shallower water

Areas formerly below storm wave base –> now part of offshore transition zone

Areas formerly in offshore transition zone –> now part of shoreface zone above fair-weather wave base

= vertical succession of facies progressively shallow upwards
