sediment - aeolian deposition Flashcards
what is aeolian deposition?
when winds are stronger than 40km/hr = surface rolling and saltation
what is sand abrasion?
sand is relatively heavy so rarely carried by the wind in suspension.. so abrasion only occurs up to a height of 1m. sand abrasion has a limited effect on rocky coastlines
what does power of sand increase with?
the erosive power of sand increases exponentially with increased wind velocity
why is dry sand easier for wind to pick up?
because the wet sand sticks together
why is attrition effective in wind?
no film of water around sand particles they crash into each other and break into smaller pieces
when will deposition happen?
when friction of the land slows down energy of the wind and it has to drop the sand
