Define phising
Carried out over emails pretending to be a legitimate organisations like bank and societies to take customer’s bank details, credit cards, passwords
Preventions from phising
- Ignore to emails from sender you don’t know
- Never give your bank details or passwords out over the emails.
Define pharming
Infect legitimate websites with malicious code that will re-direct you to their false version of the website.

Define smishing
Same as phising but they are fraudulent messages are sent via text messages rather than emails.
Define spam
‘Junk email’, unwanted emails and it is sent automatically to thousand email’s inboxes.
Why do people send spam?
- To gain people’s personal data through phising
- To advertise low quality’s products
- To spread virus
How to prevent spam?
- Use spam filters
- Don’t post your email addresses in public websites like chat rooms.
Define hacking
The process of accessing computer system without permission
Causes of hacking?
To cause damage to files and data by deleting or changing them
To commit fraud by stealing data (bank numbers etc)
To access sensitive information
How to prevent hacking?
- Firewall, which provide a shield between ypur computer and Internet
- Hard passwords
- Data encryption, makes the files unreadable if the user does not know the passwords to un-encrypt them
Give ways to check that online information is correct
- use well known websites
- verify the information by checking it on several different websites
- try and stay away from sites where just anyone can post the information
Give ways to avoid undesirable information
- stick to well known websites that you have heard of
- use built-in search engine filters. Google has a feature which will exclude search results
- use parental controls which are built into most modern browsers - block access to many undesirable websites
