Has a public service remit - has to operate for publics interest
Do not need to make a profit and can operate at a loss

Disadvantages of public sector
Funds limited as it comes from taxation
In less economically privileged areas - local authorities have less money to spend
No financial freedom
Slow to change - needs to be evaluated
Advantages of voluntary sector
Wide variety of activities - based on enthusiasm of individuals
Only needs one person to start opportunities for new club
Rarely high overheads (free volunteers)
Good financial supply from government and local business
Disadvantages of voluntary sector
Uncontrolled sector - help is voluntary and can’t be demanded
No public service remit
No guaranteed financial support
It can be socially exclusive
Can not guarantee the person who started the in will not move away
