Section VIII - Fire Protection Flashcards
What is accomplished by pulling an engine fire switch?
a. GEN OFF
b. Closes Engine and spar fuel valve
c. Closes the Engine BLEED air valve
d. Arms both Fire extinguisher bottles
e. Shuts off HYDRAULIC Engine driven pump
What is accomplished by pulling an APU fire switch?
a. Trips the APU GEN OFF
b. Closes the APU air supply valve and inlet door
c. Arms the APU fire extinguisher bottle.
d. Shuts down the APU
How many fire extinguishing bottles are available for each engine?
2 TOTAL.
Either or both bottles can be discharged into either engine.
What are the indications of an engine fire?
a. The fire bell sounds.
b. The master WARNING lights illuminate.
c. The engine fire switch LEFT or RIGHT fire warning illuminates.
d. The discrete fire warning light illuminates.
e. The engine FUEL CONTROL switch fire warning light illuminates.
f. The EICAS warning message L or R engine displays.
g. The engine fire switch unlocks.
How can an aural fire bell be silenced? ( Engine fire )
a. Extinguishing the fire.
b. Pushing either master warning/caution reset.
c. Pulling the appropriate fire switch.
How can an engine fire switch be pulled if there is no present fire indication in the associated switch?
a. The engine and APU fire switches are mechanically locked in the down position to avoid inadvertent activation. When a fire is detected, the respective switch is electrically unlocked and may then be pulled out. Manual unlocking of the switch is accomplished by pushing the fire override switch located beneath the fire switch.
How can an APU fire warning light be extinguished?
The fire warning lights remain illuminated as long as the fire signal exists.
How can an APU fire be detected from outside the flight deck?
If on the Ground, the horn on the nose gear strut sounds and the fire warning light on the APU ground control panel illuminates.
Which direction must the APU fire switch be rotated to discharge a fire bottle on the 767-300?
The APU fire switch may be rotated in either direction as it discharges only (1) APU fire bottle into the APU compartment.
If the aircraft has 2 APU FIRE bottles, make sure to rotate the APU Fire switch the opposite direction if needed.
How many fire extinguisher bottles are available for the APU?
a. 767-200/300 Aircraft: (1) fire extinguisher bottle
b. -232 Aircraft: (2) fire extinguisher bottles
What would cause an APU BTL DISCH light to illuminate on the APU fire panel?
a. When either the APU fire bottle has been discharged or has low pressure.
T/F: Pushing a FWD CARGO FIRE ARM switch in will discharge the fire extinguisher bottle into the associated compartment?
FALSE
Pushing the FWD CARGO FIRE ARM switch ARMS all cargo fire extinguisher bottles and TURNS OFF both recirculation fans.
Pushing the BTL DISCH switch will discharge the fire extinguisher bottles into the ARMED cargo compartment.
What are indications of a cargo compartment fire?
a. The fire bell sounds
b. The master WARNING light illuminates
c. the MAIN, FWD, OR AFT cargo fire warning light illuminates
d. The Discrete fire warning light illuminates
e. The EICAS warning message FWD or AFT CARGO FIRE displays.
Describe the operation of the cargo compartment fire extinguishing bottles (767-300).
a. Pushing the fire bottle discharge switch initiates discharge of the fire bottles. The first bottle discharges immediately into the selected compartment.
B. The second fire bottle discharges at a later time or at a reduced flow rate to the selected compartment.
Describe the operation of the main deck cargo compartment fire suppression system.
Fire suppression is accomplished by shutting off the supply of air to the compartment. As a result, the airplane gradually depressurizes and the oxygen required for combustion is eliminated.
Pushing the DEPR/CARGO switch shuts off the air to the cargo compartments and also results in a gradual depressurization to the approximate flight altitude.
