Section IV - Automatic Flight Flashcards
- Autothrottle modes available on FMA?
- Additional modes on a ADV PFD ?
1.SPD, IDLE, N1, THR HOLD, FL CH, GA, TEST, AT
2.
• FLAP LIM
• ALPHA
• SPD LIM
AFDS Roll modes available on FMA?
HDG HOLD, HDG SEL, LNAV, LOC, ROLLOUT, TO, GA, AP
AFDS pitch modes available for on the FMA?
TO, ALT CAP, ALT HOLD, V/S, VNAV PATH, VNAV SPD, FLARE, G/S, GA
When would the autopilot provide control to inputs to the Ailerons, Elevator, and Rudder?
Only during a multiple autopilot approach (all three CMD’s engaged).
What hydraulic system(s) is responsible for controlling the autopilot servos that provide inputs to the flight controls?
ALL 3 flight control computers (left, center, and right).
How is normal autopilot disengagement accomplished?
- Control wheel autopilot disengage switch.
- MCP autopilot disengage bar.
- Utilizing the trim switch (single autopilot) will cause it to disconnect
T/F: The use of the autothrottle cannot be operated without using the flight director
False; the autothrottle can be operated without using the flight director or the autopilot.
With respect to windshear recovery, pushing the G/A switch commands a pitch up of how many degrees on the flight director?
15 degrees.
When turning the flight director to ON while on the ground, what indications on the Flight Mode Annunciator will be present?
The Autothrottle mode is blank, the roll mode is TO, the pitch mode is TO, and the AFDS status is FD (i.e. blank
TO | TO | FD)
When will the G/A thrust reference become displayed on the EICAS?
- Flaps are moved out of the ‘up’ position or
- A glideslope is captured.
When switching the flight director to OFF, and then back to ON while in flight, what indications on the Flight Mode Annunciator will be present?
Vertical Speed (V/S) and heading hold (HDG HOLD) or attitude (ATT) if no autopilot in command (CMD).
If any autopilot is in command, expect the FMA to display existing autopilot modes
When does ROLLOUT mode arm and when does it activate ?
ROLLOUT (armed) – displays below 1500 feet radio altitude and
• ROLLOUT (active) – activates below 5 feet. after touchdown, AFDS uses rudder and
nosewheel steering to steer the airplane on the localizer centerline.
What does the Amber AP mean on the FMA ?
Mode changes to amber surrounded amber box.
Indicates:
1. Source system failure or
2. Lack of computed information
Pitch annunciation TO will target how much pitch and speed ?
8 degrees initially on the ground and a pitch command greater of V2 + 15 knots or liftoff speed + 15
- When VNAV SPD is active how does it work ?
- How can you adjust speed without exiting VNAV ?
1.The AFDS maintains the FMC speed displayed on the FMA and/or the CDU CLIMB or DESCENT pages.
2. During speed intervention, use the MCP IAS/MACH selector to manually set the speed
