Section Summery Flashcards
What are the three states of matter?
Liquid, solid and gas.
How are particles arranged in a solid?
All solids keep a definate shape and volume, and are in fixed positions that cannot flow like a liquid.
How are particles arranged in liquids?
Liquids do not keep a definate shape, they are still quite dense but not enough to hold their shape.
What happens to the pressure of gas if the tempreture of the gas is increased?
If the tempreture of the gas is increased, it will increase the pressure.
Give the names of five changes of state, and say which state they go from and to.
Melting ( solid - Liquid) Freezing (liquid - solid) Boiling ( liquid - gas) Condensing (Gas - Liquid) Subliming (solid - gas)
Does a change of state involve a change in mass?
A change of state, doesnt involve a change of mass, only a change in heat energy.
For any given substance, in which state do the particles have the most energy?
GAS
What is an atom?
Each element comtains an atom, all matter is made up of them.
Roughly, how many elements are there in the periodic table?
There are over 100.
In the periodic table
a) what is a group?
b) what is a period?
a) the verticle coloms in a periodic table are called groups.
b) The horizontle rows are called periods.
