What is the HDI?
The human development index. This takes into account life expectancy, education level and income per head.
Disadvantages of development indicators.
Can be inaccurate - informal trade (untaxed)
Social indicators are difficult to measure
May be misleading as they don’t show any elite groups
What is an NIC?
Newly industrialising Country
