Overall View
(Approaching truck)
- no puddles indicating a leak
- not leaning indicating a flat tire, suspension issue, or shifted load
Lights
(Point out lights as you call them out)
- 5 clearance lights, headlights, high beams, left and right turn signals,
- 4-ways are securely attached, clean not cracked or broken, the correct color
Coolant level
- secured to the truck
- not cracked or broken.
- not leaking and is filled to operating level
Coolant lines
- not rubbing on anything
- all clamps are tight, and they are not cut or leaking
Water pump
- belt driven
- all bolts are in place and tight, and it is not leaking
- belt is not cut or frayed, and has no more than 1/2 to 3/4 inch of play on its longest run
Alternator
- belt driven
- all hardware is in place and tight
- electrical wire connections are clean and tight
- there are no bare, burnt, or frayed wires
- belt is not cut or frayed, and has no more than 1/2 to 3/4 inch of play on its longest run
Oil level
(Point to the oil dipstick. Do not pull it out)
- dipstick is in place and would be checked with the engine off to make sure that the oil is at operating level
Leaks and Hoses
- no visible or audible leaks in hoses, lines, engine, or engine components
Air compressor
- gear driven
- all hardware is in place and tight
- there are no leaks
Main Air Line
- connections are tight as far back as I can see
- the line is not cut, cracked, or frayed
- not rubbing on anything
- there are no leaks
Spring Hanger
- securely attached
- not broken, and has not been welded
- all hardware is in place and tight
Springs
- secured to the mounts
- none are missing or broken
- properly aligned
U-Bolts
- secured in place with all hardware on the bottom and tight
- no indication of shifting. (No clean or shiny spots)
Shock absorber
- secured at both top and bottom
- bushings are good so it does not move
- not bent or broken
- not leaking
Steering Column/shaft
- secured and in good working order
- not too much movement at the U-joints
Power Steering reservoir
- filled to the proper level
- reservoir is secured and not damaged or leaking
Power Steering pump
- gear driven
- all hardware in place and tight
- not damaged or leaking
Power steering lines
- secured at both ends
- not cut or rubbing anything
- no leaks
Power steering gearbox
- secured with all hardware in place and tight
- not damaged or leaking
Steering linkage
- pitman arm, drag link, upper/lower steering knuckles, and tie rod are securely attached
- not bent or broken
- castle nuts and cotter pins are in place
- bushings are not torn or missing
Brake air line
- connections are tight at both ends
- not cut, frayed, or rubbing anything
- not leaking
Brake chamber
- secured with all hardware in place and tight
- no holes or damage
- not leaking
Slack adjuster push rod assembly
- secure with all hardware in place and tight
- not bent or broken
- no more than 1 inch of play
Brake shoes
- not broken or missing
- not covered in oil or grease
- at least 1/4 inch thick
Brake drum
- not broken
- no welds
- not covered in oil or grease
Tires (steer)
(All sidewalls)
- tire has no abrasions, bubbles, or cuts
- no tread separation
- evenly worn
- at least 4/32 inch of tread depth
Valve stem
- has cap in place
- no leaks
- ensure tire is properly inflated
Rim
- not cracked, bent, or welded on
- bead is not coming apart
Lug nuts
- all ten lugs in place and tight
- no rust streaks indicating looseness
Hub oil seal
- not leaking and filled to proper level
- all hardware is in place and tight
