Q

Why muslims are for transplant surgery

A
  • Qur’an says muslims must save the lives of others, close relatives should be saved via transplant if dying (like starving muslim eat pork), qur’an 5.32
  • live donations less controversial as the resurrection would be unaffected, as some organs aren’t essential ie one kidney, as long as dont risk donors life, act of charity
  • the muslim law council (1996) issued fatwa allowing donor cards, as a means of alleviating pain or saving a life, cannot sell organs as degrades the body
  • effective proven method of curing terminal illnesses or improving life (heart malfunction/cornea transplant to give sight)

Q

Why muslims are against transplant surgery

A
  • sanctity of life/ playing god, transplanting organs is acting like god which is the biggest sin of islam, all life belongs to god, up to god and he only has the right whether he takes or gives life
  • body should be buried soon after death, islam does not permit post mortems to donate as are resurrected soon after death as a whole
  • humans have no right to alter allahs plan of life and death
  • breaking the code of shari’ah
  • full bodily resurrection, on the last day of living the body resurrects so all organs are needed to do it properly, do not purposefully harm a body
  • donation can be unethical, like from death row inmates

  • all members of the ummah past, present, future share in the earths resources
19
Q

Bullet point a few issues with fertility treatment

A
  • in christianity goes against gods plan
  • IVF embryos discarded if not used, killed but not killed if muslim as soul enters body after 120 days
  • sperm and egg donations should donors be part of the childs life, human rights
  • do donors child have a right to know them
  • surrogacy- not sure whether shed go through with it, risky, whos child?
  • the cost (4k-8k) per cycle of hormone injections procedure etc
  • only 3 cycles for NHS, prove infertile for 3 years
  • cannot get fertility treatment over 39 for NHS
  • should the nHS with money problems provide these services
  • involves masturbation
  • seen as adultery
  • baby should be naturally conceived
20
Q

IVF

A

Egg and sperm taken from a couple, fertilized in a lab, placed in females womb

21
Q

AIH

A

Sperm taken from the male and placed in his partners uterus

22
Q

AID

A

Sperm donated to a clinic and placed in a womans uterus

23
Q

Embryo donation

A

Donated egg and sperm are fertilized in a lab and embryo then placed in a womans uterus

24
Q

Egg donation

A

Donated egg fertilised by the male of the partners sperm, fertilized egg put in womans womb

25
Q

Surrogacy

A

Becomes pregnant with someone elses child and hands it over after pregnancy

26
Q

Global warming

A

Overall increase of the earths surface atmosphere

27
Q

Pollution

A

Contamination if the environment

28
Q

Natural resources

A

Found all over the world in different amounts, used by humans in many different ways. Renewable and non renewable natural resources.

29
Q

Organ donation thoughts

A
  • all organs should be used when die as dont need anymore, could save lives
  • give quality of life to the ill when you die
  • guilt can consume those who have a transplant
  • comes at a large cost, not always successful, also need blood donations during operation
30
Q

Causes of global warming

A
  • deforestation, lungs of the earth
  • fertilisers to grow crops release nitrous oxide
  • cows more produced, therefore more methane
  • burning fossil fuels releasing CO2
  • clear land due to overpopulation
31
Q

Effects of global warming

A
  • temperature increase at poles rather than equator, therefore ice caps melt
  • melted ice caps cause sea levels to rise
  • cause flooding in low lying areas
  • population increase in higher lying land
  • increase spread of disease
  • increase land temp, soil dry, drought
  • more violent and unpredictable climate
  • insufficient food supply to over growing population
32
Q

Forms of pollution

A
  • air pollution, gases added to air changing the balance of it, can increase acid rain, asthma etc, industrial processes add to this
  • water pollution, called polluted when unusable by humans, oil spill etc
  • land pollution, materials left on land that affect the way the land can be used, chemicals/physical items
33
Q

Renewable resources

A
  • may turn to this when natural sources run out

- alternative way if receiving energy

34
Q

Non renewable resources

A
  • some resources limited to few countries, high demand, therefore rich country
  • could induce conflict
  • once used, whole ecosystems disappear
  • prices of valuable resources will greatly increase
35
Q

Solutions for global warming

A
  • companies produce power in environmentally friendly ways
  • governments meet to agree a restriction on CO2 production
  • people can use less energy ie more efficient lightbulbs
  • increase recycling
  • alternative travel routes, cycling or walking
36
Q

Possible solutions for pollution

A
  • all pollution governments decided can punish amount of pollution if beyond safe limits
  • land pollution, recycle unwanted products, reduce products used in the first place
37
Q

Reuse

A
  • people should pass unwanted clothing and gadgets and toys to others, fewer new items need to be made
  • reuse plastic bags shopping
38
Q

Recycle

A
  • industries should recycle materials more often

- industry must produce goods that can more easily be recycled

39
Q

Reduce

A
  • reduce amount of materials used in the first place

- renewable energy instead of fossil fuels

40
Q

Problem with recycling

A

Very expensive

Much time needed to sort through items

41
Q

Problem with reduce

A

difficult to cap and restrict the amount people use

42
Q

Problem with reuse

A

People often prefer to buy new things

43
Q

Environmental ethics problems

A
  • fracking
  • overpopulation/growth
  • floodings
  • illegal use of banned fossil fuels
  • new ozone destroying chemicals
  • northern hemisphere influences global warming more than southern hemisphere
44
Q

Natural resources future problems

A
  • oil reserves may run out in 50 years
  • many fish species are on the verge of extinction
  • 2000 trees are cut down per minute
45
Q

Why lack of urgency towards changing climate

A
  • a myth
  • leave it to the others
  • government/companies have the power
  • we are too optimistic
